2021: Global EB Patients Conference 16 September - 19 September

For many years now, clinicians, researchers and, above all, EB patients from all over the world have been exchanging ideas at the DEBRA International Congress.

"You are not alone" - was the motto of the DEBRA International Patient Conference 2021 organised by DEBRA Russia. EB does not only affect a few people, although it is one of the rare diseases. The first virtual DEBRA congress demonstrated this in an impressive way. More than 15,000 participants from over 130 countries show that the topic is a big one and that the EB family worldwide is much bigger than previously thought.

Virtual and free of charge

Actually, the congress should have taken place in Moscow. All participants then travelled to Red Square - but purely virtually and free of charge. The Russian landmark served as the backdrop for the well-functioning online congress platform. For the interaction of the participants, a 3D space was developed with virtual stages, an area for panel discussions, coffee breaks and communication rooms. Participants had the possibility to attend the sessions in their own time zone. There was also a wide range of translation services. In addition to the Medical Track Stage, which focused on clinical and research topics, many people also visited the Patient Track Stage, which provided a platform for people with EB, DEBRA groups worldwide and some entertainment.

EB2020: 1st Global Congress on Epidermolysis Bullosa

From 19-23 January 2020, the EB2020 Research Conference, the 5th Conference of EB-CLINET as well as the DEBRA International Congress took place together in London as the '1st Global Congress on Epidermolysis Bullosa'.

This ground-breaking meeting brought together all global knowledge on EB research, clinical management and the EB Community. This pooling of state-of-the-art expertise across the key stakeholders not only provided guidance for the professionals involved in EB, but also helped in the development of strategies for the research, regulatory, funding, and healthcare communities. With the emphasis on current scientific and clinical data and fostering strategic and collaborative work, this meeting made a difference in the world of EB and helps raise awareness of the condition. DEBRA UK hosted the EB World Congress EBWC 2020 event, supported by an alliance of more than 20 rare disease and dermatology organisations worldwide.
